Valletta and Mdina tour

We will be starting the tour by visiting Mdina, the ancient capital city of Malta. The history of the city traces more than 4000 years. Known as the silent city and as Citta Nobile – the nobile city, Mdina is fascinating to visit for its cultural and religious treasures. Mdina is one of Europe’s finest examples of ancient walled city and extraordinary in its mix of medieval and baroque architecture.

The city was founded as Maleth by the Phoenicians and later renamed Melite by the Romans. During the Arabic period it got is present name, which derives from the Arabic word Medina.

The tour will proceed later on to Valletta, the capital of Malta, a Unesco World heritage site and the European cultural capital for the year 2018. It is a living experience of Baroque architecture, a monument donated by the knights of St.John.

Valletta is abundantly rich in sites to see and explore, intriguing historical buildings around every corner. Narrow streets are full of quaint cafés and bars. Malta’s capita boosts some of Europe’s finest art works, churches and palaces. The city provides a stunning view of Malta’s Grand Harbour, often described as the most beautiful in the Mediterranean. The city is today one of Malta’s main tourist attractions, hosting among others the majestic St. John’s co- cathedral, the imposing bastions and a treasure of priceless paintings.

Our tour includes:

  • A walk through the city, where you can admire from the outside numerous buildings built by the knights.
  • The Upper Barracca Gardens
  • Visit of St. John’s co-cathedral and Caravaggio masterpieces   ( last entrance on a Saturday is at noon and cathedral is closed all day on Sunday and public holidays)
